The May 1996 Commencement ceremony was UTSA's official commencement ceremony celebrating graduates of the Spring 1996 semester. It featured two back-to-back ceremonies, one at 10:00 a.m. and one at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 11 in the Convocation Center. Dr. Patricia A. Graham, UTSA Associate Vice President for Student Affairs, was chair of the Committee on Graduation Ceremonies. Singer Joseph Brown was that year's reigning Mr. UTSA. The afternoon ceremony marks the first UTSA doctoral graduates, both in biology: James Thompson Colston and Karla K. Kopec.

Each college held a reception for its graduates. Since the new Business Building had been announced, the Humanities-Business Building had been renamed the Humanities and Social Sciences Building. Since it was not yet finished, the College of Business reception was in its historic location.
