The May 1996 Commencement ceremony was UTSA's official commencement ceremony celebrating graduates of the Spring 1996 semester. It featured two back-to-back ceremonies, one at 10:00 a.m. and one at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 11 in the Convocation Center . Dr. Patricia A. Graham, UTSA Associate Vice President for Student Affairs, was chair of the Committee on Graduation Ceremonies. Singer Joseph Brown was that year's reigning Mr. UTSA . The afternoon ceremony marks the first UTSA doctoral graduates, both in biology: James Thompson Colston and Karla K. Kopec.

Each college held a reception for its graduates. Since the new Business Building had been announced, the Humanities-Business Building had been renamed the Humanities and Social Sciences Building . Since it was not yet finished, the College of Business reception was in its historic location.
