The Paisano student newspaper started circulating bi-weekly in 1981 but has been weekly since Fall 1993. It has been released on Tuesdays with very few exceptions, such as the 1986-1987 academic year when it was released on Thursdays. During the 2005-2006 academic year, an extra Paisano was released on a Thursday towards the each of each month. Summer Paisanos were issued from 1983 to 1986 and ever since 1997 (with the exception of 2003).

Ever since going weekly, most semesters have had 13 issues, but most since Fall 2008 have had 14. The most issues in a semester is Fall 2005 with 16 due to the extra Thursday issues. Through Spring 2012, the earliest and latest Fall issues are 8/21 (2007) and 12/8 (1987), with 1/11 (2011) and 5/7 (1987) being the corresponding dates for the Spring semester.

Volume numbers generally reflected the calendar year (as opposed to academic year) through 1988 (volume 9) and has been semesterly since 1999 (volume 22). This assessment is based on the issue numbers resetting since numbering errors caused volumes 25 and 28 to be repeated and 19 to start over halfway through. In between 1988 and 1999, volumes varied between being semesterly and annual. Volume 43 was skipped, perhaps in recognition of the numbering being off. Errors in the list might be accurately reflecting errors on the issue.

NotesEdit

  • The dates would suggest that a paper came out on 2/20/2001 and 1/23/2007, but the volume and number markings would suggest otherwise. Also, neither the Paisano office nor JPL Special Collections has any issues for these dates.

HolidaysEdit

  • The Paisano has come out on Valentine's Day in the years 1984, 1989, 1995, 2006, and 2012 and Halloween in the years 1995, 2000, and 2006. Due to a two-week hiatus for Spring Break, it has never come out on St. Patrick's Day. Most other holidays that occur during the Fall and Spring semesters are only on Mondays.
